WHY PLAY

THE SCIENCE IS CLEAR. THE WORLD HAS FORGOTTEN.

We live in a culture of hyper-optimization, lonely self-improvement, and sterile productivity.

Play is the antidote — and it's backed by decades of research in neuroscience, positive psychology, and human development.

Play builds performance, creativity, resilience, trust, and joy. It is not a luxury. It is a biological necessity.

THE PROGRAM

Play isn't childish. It's essential.

Available as a keynote, workshop, or facilitated book club experience, The Power of Play is the exploration of how play drives performance, wellbeing, creativity, and human connection at work and in life.

What Readers have to say

★★★★★

A great read with real solutions to FUN

Play has always been important to me, as a way of learning and just to have fun. This book breaks it down into the 'why' having fun is so good for our brains and facilitating learning.

Great research, lots of ways to engage and ideals of movement and exploration are captured in these thoughtful chapters, even solutions on how to bring nature into your everyday (and we all should!)

★★★★★

A great resource to bring more joy into your life!

The Power of Play is not only full of so many great ideas on how to optimize joy in your life, but also gives you all the research and science behind play. I found it particularly useful in my practice.

I think so many people have forgotten how to play and Andrea and Elaine have given so many resources on how to re-ignite that in all of us. If you want to learn more about play and its powerful benefits, this is the book to read.

★★★★★

A Serious Handbook about Play!

In The Power of Play: Optimize Your Joy Potential, authors Dr. Elaine O’Brien and Andrea Seydel guide you through all the activities of life (including the mundane, gotta-get-it-done stuff) and invite you to amp them up. They present hundreds of ideas that you can personalize, put into practice, reflect on and refine. You are sure to find more than a few ideas and strategies for incorporating play into your life for a fresh, fun perspective.

Elaine and Andrea open the door, and invite you in to create positive connections in ways that will have benefits to your own mental and physical health, and your relationships with others. You will realize that almost every minute of your life is an opportunity to create and share fun, joy, and meaning. In the process, you will also get an education in some of the “greatest hits” of positive psychology science. Refer to it often as a reminder of what you are capable of!

A fun read that makes it easy to add play and joy to your life!

What a joy to read Elaine O'Brien and Andrea Seydel's The Power of Play. The book, which is evidence-based, provides a plethora of small activities to incorporate play into the busiest of lives.

Some of those things that you love doing but often dismiss (like dancing around the kitchen and singing to the music) will now take on a higher priority!

What I enjoyed most about this book is how aligned it is with the author, Elaine O'Brien, who I have the pleasure of knowing personally. She embodies joy and her playfulness is infectious. I watched with amazement as she got a room of over 200 people to get up and dance in a lecture hall! I have to believe her colleague Andrea Seydel is the same.

This delightful book provides many avenues for the reader to be happier, healthier, and more playful in a way that speaks to them!
