Summer of ‘24 Recap
SplashDance and More!
I hope you are doing well and have been enjoying a wonderful summer. As many of you may know, I’ve recently published my new book, "SplashDance: What a Feeling! Aqua Fitness Meets Positive Psychology." This new book explores the joy and vitality of aquatic fitness aligning with the principles of the science of happiness, well-being and flourishing. SplashDance is available on Amazon and at the Comfort Zone, 44 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.
I'm proud to say SplashDance has been ranking high among the new books in the "Exercise and Injury Prevention" category. Recently a medical professional exclaimed that SplashDance, Aqua Fitness, is an "important, effective, and new form of exercise that can lead people to long-term vibrant health and vitality." Along with the MANY physical, psychological and social benefits, one of the best parts is that you don't even need to get your hair or face wet.
So…What is SplashDance?
The other day my daughter, Lianna, asked me what my main goal of SplashDance is and what I hope people take away from it. If I could sum it up in one word it would be “Healing.”
Over the past 8 months, my consistent practice of Aqua Fitness has been transformative, helping me restore my physical, social, and mental well-being after a challenging time of loss. It has offered me solace, strength, and positive connections. No matter the state you enter the pool, guaranteed you will leave it feeling rejuvenated—and that is my hope for you.
Whether you’re navigating a challenging time, looking to revitalize your spirit, connect with a community, heal from any form of trauma—whether it be an injury or emotional—or simply looking to build strength and vitality, there are incredible body-mind benefits through the rhythm and moves of Aquatic Fitness.
Happy Retirement Day, Sean O’Brien!
Cheers to my wonderful husband, Sean, who officially retired on August 1st, 2024 after 34 years in the Motion Picture Industry! His dedication and integrity are unmatched—often up before dawn for long, demanding days, always arriving early to give his best. As a Motion Picture Mechanic and Rigging Grip, Sean prioritized home and our marriage over “Key” positions, choosing crew roles to focus on his passions, including renovating properties.
Sean’s many talents, from construction to restoration, have been evident since we met 26 years ago when he restored his Century Home in Ocean Grove, NJ. Over the years, he’s worked on countless films and shows, including
The new Bob Dylan movie
Sex and the City Law and Order, the original and SVU Spin City The Paper Dead Man Down Paranoia
Wetlands
Earthly Things
Town and Country
Quiet Place
Meet Joe Black
Sean was not really “star-struck” like many of us. One actor he did admire was the loveliest Sir Anthony Hopkins, who humbly said, “Call me Tony,” and also, Harrison Ford, “a regular down to Earth guy.”
Today, as Sean says goodbye to IATSE, I'm thrilled for his next chapter. He’s already diving into his new project: renovating a property in Asbury Park into a wood shop and garage to continue his craft. Thank you, Judy and Howard Cosgrove, for introducing Sean to the industry, and to everyone who’s been part of his journey. Let’s wish him all the best—health, happiness, and joy in retirement. The fun is just beginning, Seany! You’re amazing, and I love you!

I’m thrilled to be teaching for my 25th summer at Fairway Mews Pool in Spring Lake Heights, NJ, and this year, I’m especially enjoying the SplashDance. Our classes for members are held every Monday and Friday from 9:00 to 9:55 a.m., now through Labor Day.

In Memoriam:
I'd like to honor lovely friends in Fairway Mews who have passed, including Terry, Peggy, and Betty, who were wonderful students and who are so missed. I'd also like to honor the late Ed Christensen and his wife, Kay, who was another great student supporter of Aqua Fitness for years. Sending out healing care for Kay who recently had hip surgery. Finally sending care and condolences also to Kathleen and her Mom, Peggy, whose husband, Eugene, passed. Wishing Janine good luck and good health at her new home at Seabrook Village. Miss you all. Additionally, there are three sisters, Margaret, Helen, and Kathryn, who are not able to come this summer due to illness. Please know that we are missing them and keeping them in our thoughts.
What a Feeling!
I’m thrilled to be featured in Krista Stryker's On Fire series! It was a joy to explore the science and emotion behind why music moves us—both literally and figuratively. Click the button below to read or listen to the full article.
I'm honored to share that The Power of Play: Optimize Your Joy Potential has been selected by Eli Lilly and Company for their International Book Club, serving over 43,000 employees as part of the "Well-Being Initiative." It has also been named a textbook in Leisure Studies and Recreation at the University of Iowa.
In part 3 of my book SplashDance, I talk about "Aqua Alchemy," and living our lives with Meaning, Purpose, and Vitality—in awe, with mindful attention, and a grateful heart. Along with discussing the joy of activating our Character Strengths, one of the most important parts of part 3 is around the power of positive relationships, moving together in synchrony, more and well.
People matter, and Aqua Fitness can help connect us, and boost our physical, social, psychological and logistical resources. This is important to improve the quality of our lives, health, and well-being.
August Wishes
As I celebrate my birthday month, I’m filled with gratitude for you. I’m sending out heartfelt wishes for peace, vibrant health, an active lifestyle, and enduring happiness to each of you.
With warmest wishes, and loving care,
— Elaine
